The following poem was inspired by the visit to Australia by Israel’s President and two favourite poems of mine: The Beneficiaries by Australia’s Les Murray and The Diameter of the Bomb by Israel’s Yehuda Amichai.

O some think they can restore the light
      by saying ‘only Muslims give us trouble’.
Most mendacious! How perversely odd,
      given the gruesome impact of the fight
extends from the mausoleums of rubble
      to distant countries and the seat of God.
